Time to Boil the Milk Tea

As I write, armored trucks roam the streets of Yangon, a regular feature of the military rule that began on February 1. Instead of telling bedtime stories to their kids, adults huddle in the dark with pots and pans, ready to make a racket should the police breach the makeshift defenses of their township to nab a neighbor next door.

As I write, reporters and protesters are getting ready for another dangerous day, checking their helmets, goggles, and shields that might fend off the tear gas and rubber bullets but not the live ammunition that the military has deployed in various places.

As I write, AAPP’s (Assistance Association for PoliticalPrisoners) tally of detainees since the day of the military coup reaches 854.

As I write, the life of Myat Thuzar Khin, a young protester hit by a bullet in Monywa yesterday, hangs in balance. If she doesn’t make it, she’ll join the growing casualty list, along with Mya Thwe Thwe Khine, Wai Yan Tun, and others.

As I write, Google Play and Apple App Store continue to host apps from Mytel, a telecommunication company with ties to the Burmese military; and Cloudflare, a company with a branch office a mile away from my apartment in San Francisco, continues to provide web services to Burma’s Ministry of Home Affairs, controlled by the military.

As I write, Burmese actress Paing Phyo Thu, wanted for supporting the civil disobedience movement against themilitary, is urging the public to join the Milk Tea Alliance, a collective movement that unifies the pro-democracy activists in the milk-tea-drinking nations across Asia.

As I write, I start to see Min Ko Naing, Joshua Wong, and Nathan Law as heroes of the same cut; and the Burmese junta’s Min Aung Hlaing and his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-o-cha as dictators from the same family.

As I write, I take the pledge of the Milk Tea Allegiance, a modern version of the Peach Garden Oath, that:

• the revolution is not over if Burma is free but Hong Kong and Taiwan are under threat; 
• the resistance must continue if Min Ko Naing is free but Joshua Wong is in prison and Nathan Law remains an exile;
• a tear gas canister or a bullet fired at the protesters in Thailand will prompt the same robust response in Burma;
• the milk tea will continue to boil and burn as long as there’s oppression anywhere in the region.

Long live the Milk Tea Spirit!

နွားနို့လက်ဖက်ရည်ဆူချိန်

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ ကျွန်တော်ချစ်တဲ့ရန်ကုန်မြို့ကြီးရဲ့ လမ်းမလမ်းသွယ်လေးတွေပေါ်မှာ စစ်အုပ်ချုပ်ရေးရဲ့ ယန္တရားတွေဖြစ်တဲ့ သံချပ်ကာကားများ တလိမ့်လိမ့်သွားလာနေပါတယ်။ ရပ်မိရပ်ဖတွေဟာ ကလေးငယ်တွေကို အိပ်ရာဝင်ပုံပြင်ပြောမပြနိုင်ဘဲ၊ သပိတ်မှောက်တဲ့ဝန်ထမ်းတွေကိုဖမ်းဖို့ ရပ်ကွက်ထဲပုလိပ်တွေဝင်လာရင် အသိပေးလို့ရအောင် သံပုံးကိုယ်ဆီကိုင်ထားကြရပါတယ်။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ ရောင်နီသန်းလာပြီဖြစ်လို့ သတင်းထောက်တွေနဲ့ ဆန္ဒပြမဲ့ပြည်သူတွေဟာအသက်ကိုဖက်နဲ့ထုပ်ပြီး နောက်တစ်နေ့ကိုရင်ဆိုင်ကြပါတော့မယ်။ သူတို့ရဲ့ ခမောက်နဲ့ ဒိုင်းတွေဟာ မျက်ရည်ယိုဗုံးနဲ့ ရာဘာကျည်ဆံတွေကို အတိုင်းအတာတစ်ခုလောက် ခုခံနိုင်မယ်ဆိုပေမဲ့ တစ်ချို့မြို့ကြီးမြို့ငယ်တွေမှာလူစုခွဲတုန်းက စစ်တပ်ကပစ်ခဲ့တဲ့ တကယ့်ကျည်ဆံတွေကိုတော့ တားဆီးနိုင်မှာ မဟုတ်တာ အမှန်ပါ။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာပဲ နိုင်ငံရေးအကျဉ်းသားများ ကူညီစောင့်ရှောက်ရေးအသင်းက အာဏာသိမ်းပြီးနောက် စုစုပေါင်းဖမ်းဆီးခံထားရသူများကို ၈၅၄ ယောက်လို့ ပြင်လိုက်ပါတယ်။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ မုံရွာမှာ လူစုခွဲနေတုန်းကသေနတ်မှန်သွားတဲ့ညီမလေး မြတ်သူဇာခင်ဟာ အသက်လုနေရလို့ သေမလားရှင်မလား မသေချာဘူးလို့ သိရပါတယ်။ မပြောကောင်းပြောကောင်း သူသာကျဆုံးသွားရင်တော့ နေပြည်တော်ကသမီးငယ် မြသွဲ့သွဲ့ခိုင်၊ မန္တလေးကသားငယ် ဝေယံထွန်းတို့လို တော်လှန်ရေးမှာ နောက်ပန်းတစ်ပွင့်ကြွေပြန်ပြီပေါ့။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ Google နဲ့ Apple တို့ရဲ့ အွန်လိုင်းဈေးကွက်တွေပေါ်မှာ စစ်အာဏာရှင်တို့ရဲ့ သွေးညှီနံ့မကင်းတဲ့ Mytel ဆက်သွယ်ရေးကုမ္ပဏီရဲ့  app တွေကို လူတွေကဆက်လက်ဝယ်ယူသုံးစွဲနေဆဲပါ။ ကျွန်တော့်အိမ်နဲ့ တစ်မိုင်လောက်သာဝေးတဲ့ ဆန်ဖရန်စစ်စကို မြိုလယ်ခေါင်မှာ ရုံးခန်းရှိတဲ့ Cloudflare ကုမ္ပဏီကလည်း စစ်တပ်လက်အောက်က ပြည်ထဲရေးကို နည်းပညာဝန်ဆောင်မှုတွေ ရောင်းချပေးနေဆဲပါ။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ ပြည်သူ့သပိတ်ကိုထောက်ခံခဲ့လို့ ဝရမ်းပြေးအဖြစ် တိမ်းရှောင်ပုံးအောင်းနေရရှာတဲ့ မင်းသမီးမပိုင်ဖြိုးသူရဲ့ ဗွီဒီယိုလေးတက်လာပါတယ်။ အာရှတစ်ဝန်းလုံးမှာ ဖိနှိပ်မှုလက်အောက်ကရုန်းထွက်ဖို့ကြိုးစားနေကြသူတွေရဲ့  နွားနို့လက်ဖက်ရည်မဟာမိတ် (Milk Tea Alliance) အရေးတော်ပုံကြီးမှာ ပူးပေါင်းပါဝင်ကြပါတဲ့။

ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာ မြန်မာပြည်ကမင်းကိုနိုင်၊ ဟောင်ကောင်က Joshua Wong နဲ့ Nathan Law တို့ဟာ လူမျိုးမတူပေမဲ့ ယုံကြည်ချက်တူတဲ့ ရဲဘော်များဆိုတာ သဘောပေါ်လာတယ်။ နောက်ပြီး မင်းအောင်လှိုင်နဲ့ အိမ်နီးချင်းထိုင်းနိုင်ငံက ပရာယွတ်ချန်အိုချာတို့ဟာလည်း အမျိုးတော်တဲ့ခွေးဘီလူးတွေဆိုတာသိလာတယ်။

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော်ဒီစာကိုရေးနေစဉ်မှာပဲ နွားနို့လက်ဖက်ရည်မဟာမိတ်တို့ကို သစ္စာဆိုလိုက်ပါတယ်။ 

မြန်မာပြည်လွတ်လပ်ရင်တောင် ဟောင်ကောင်နဲ့ ထိုင်ဝမ်က တရုတ်ဘေးရန်မကင်းသေးရင် အရေးတော်ပုံ မပြီးသေးပါ။

ဒေသတစ်ဝန်းလုံးမှာ ဖိနိုပ်ခံရသူတွေရှိနေသေးသ၍ နွားနို့လက်ဖက်ရည်တော်လှန်ရေးဟာ အငွေ့တထောင်းထောင်းထနေစေရပါမယ်။
